Today began as a normal Wednesday, as my feet hit the floor. Then just a couple of short hours later my day changed.
I hit a bump in the road. That’s just a saying, because as I was heading out to the gym, to begin my morning routine, my car didn’t leave its spot. As I turned the key the only noise to be heard was the ticking of what was left of my battery.
I was all set. I had my day planned out. Items packed accordingly to run errands after classes at the gym. It’s not like I was running late, it was just one of those things.
My first thought was – You have. Got. To be kidding me. All I saw was dollar signs, and lately all I see of dollar signs are their exit from me. I wanted to cry, pout, and complain. I wanted to call someone to help me, to rescue me, to handle it so I wouldn’t have to. But instead, I tried to start the car again, nothing. Before I dialed the phone, different thoughts introduced themselves in rapid succession:
- Life is all about how you handle things. You can handle them positively, or negatively.
- Your attitude determines your altitude.
- This is not new for you. You have had to handle a lot on your own more pressing than this.
- You have someone – Me. And, I meet all your requirements.
Responses to the bullet fire of thoughts came just as quick.
- With the first thought – At least I am at home. I can go back into the house. Positive.
- With the second thought – Change your attitude your day will go much better. There is a reason for this. Accept it, and embrace it.
- With the third thought – Oh, you are right! This is simple in comparison.
But with the fourth thought I did not respond. Instead, it was reminders of reassurance that surfaced.
The “someone” that is with me (and you), is Jesus.
“For God has said, I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Heb. 13:5NLT
I, Jesus, will help you.
“My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!” Ps. 121:1 NLT
It is I, Jesus, who will rescue you.
“He rescues and saves his people; he performs miraculous signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth.” Dan. 6:27NLT
And, if you let Me (Jesus) I will handle it.
“This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by (fill in your situation), for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chron. 20:15 NLT (parentheses mine)
It was with the last thought that I decided – it will all be ok! This minor change in my plans – was perfect, and must have been just what I needed. And, then I remembered – AAA! That was the phone call I made.
Have you ever been there? Had your day all planned out, and then – in a moment it changes. Maybe with you it is not car problems. Maybe it is with: a current relationship, a job that places many demands on you, strained finances, a doctor’s report that did not come out the way you wanted, an unexpected call that takes you off guard, a divorce that takes you off guard, a lay-off that you had no idea was coming, a time of unemployment that has lasted longer than you’d like, that big sale you thought you had secured only to find out they went elsewhere, or with a dream that was on its way to becoming a reality until – things changed, and now you are forced to start over.
Whatever it may be, if you are in one of those places of having your plans changed, and find yourself re-routed rest assured – He is with you.
“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of age.” Mt. 28:20 NLT
And there my day began, totally different than I had planned.
