Sometimes all we want is a little help.
I never thought I asked for much, or really anything. To my own fault I am pretty independent. It wasn’t brought to my attention until one day the comment was made “I can help you, but it depends on how many others you asked first.” Point taken – you will be the last one I ask. Isn’t that how we react when we feel hurt?
The words might as well have been a double edged sword as it cut right through my heart. I hung up the phone before I spewed something right back. To ease my hurt I did what any other person would do, I jumped on Facebook. Isn’t that what people do? My feelings are hurt, and I feel unloved. So I will go right to social media. The difference is I did not post anything, somethings people should leave off social media sites. Just my opinion.
As I was scrolling down the ever-so-important news feed I saw a post from International Speaker, Christine Caine “What you look at longest will become strongest in your life. Fix your eyes on Jesus.” God can even use social media to speak to us, and get our attention.
At that my eyes stayed parked on the last five words – Fix your eyes on Jesus. My eyes were fixed, it took a few seconds for my mind to catch up and then, Hebrews 12:2 came rushing to take the place of the post. Hebrews 12:2a says “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” NLT. With those words dancing in my mind’s eye, and ringing in my ears, I quickly closed Facebook, and went to The Book.
As my eyes focused on His Words. The hurt feeling went away, a peace and calmness came over me. I turned to the concordance to look up the word “Help.” Sometimes we just want a little help. And, now I know who will give me this help. My search landed me at Ps. 33:20-22
“We put our hope in the LORD.
He is our help and shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
For we trust in his holy name.” NLT
Sometimes when we want a little help, who are we trying to get it from? If it’s not the Lord we will be disappointed. He is the one that provides all our help. The solicited, and unsolicited, help. There is no better help than from Him. He will put the right people in your path, and life, to help you. Just a few chapters back in Hebrews I love how The Message puts it “Let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.” Heb. 4:16 MSG. His help.
When times seem difficult; when there seems to be no clear solution; when there appears to be no one to help you; when you feel like you are forgotten – remember “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isa. 41:10 NLT. To sum up Christine Caine don’t focus on anything for too long other than Jesus; otherwise, it will take over.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, not your situation. He comes through EVERY time – in His time!
