“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jn. 8:31-32 NLT
Sometimes we hold on to what we know to be true because we have seen, felt, and tasted it. But, other times truth comes through what is not seen.
Truth is a foreknowledge of an outcome based on the knowledge you possess, and the actions that accompany it.
I am not referring to what we know as “little white lies,” when someone asks us a question and we half answer, or we answer so we won’t cause any conflict. Or when we fall back on the saying, “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Those are issues for another day. But, all are considered a lie in the eyes of God. For God knows.
“For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light.” Mk. 4:26 NLT
Truth as we looked at last week is Jesus. It is His teaching, and example.
Many of us have heard the saying “Perception is reality.” I agree with that to an extent; however, with Jesus there is no grey. We can look at His miracles in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There are 35 miracles recorded, yet it is at the end of the book of John where he tells us –
“Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.” Jn. 21:25 NLT
Last week as I thought of our verse of focus in the 2016 Challenge, there were so many things that He did for me. The truth of His word leaped off the pages and ignited my life!
Truth that when I obey Him AND follow His example – Then, I will know the truth. I asked over and over last week, and over the weekend. Lord, what shall I write about? Truth. It is such a broad topic. What do I say?
Finally, a gentle whisper spoke to me and said, “Truth is Me. Jesus.” As I searched scriptures I came to 2 Peter 1:12, “Therefore, I will always remind you about these things – even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.” NLT That’s it! That’s it for me, and that’s it for you.
We are standing on the truth of Jesus. Each week we have focused on a promise and saw in our lives God come to life and act. If you have not experienced that, don’t be discouraged. Ask God to reveal himself to you. To show off. To make Himself known so that you know it was Him. Friends, He loves to do that! Why? Because He desires a relationship with us, and all the glory belongs to Him. He wants you and me to know Him, and His Son, Jesus Christ. It will be the best relationship you have ever had!
The truth Jesus teaches us, are through the 35 miracles, the teachings, and in His dealing with others.
Truth is when the words on the pages of the bible come to life.
Truth is when something happens in your life and you have no explanation for it – except that it had to be Jesus.
Truth is the sun rising, and setting.
Truth is the air we breathe, and the creation all around us!
Truth is Jesus.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jn. 14:1&6a NLT
What truth are you seeking? Seek it through Jesus.
“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Ti. 3:16 NLT
